FLOODS


 

 

The State is bestowed with a relatively high average annual rainfall of 212.2 cm with average number of rainy days at 92. Normally rain arrives in the State in late April and continues up to October. However, the intensity of rainfall increases during the months of June to September. Higher rainfall occurring during this period causing floods in low lying areas and erosion of land throughout most of the State has become a regular feature in the State.  The State has in the past witnessed worst form of disasters caused by floods rendering normal life paralysed by way of disruption of means of communications caused due to damage of roads and bridges and also blockage of roads due to landslides.
